Who is Pierre Fermat ?
The French mathematician Pierre de Fermat (Beaumont de Lomagne 1601- Castres 1665) was possibly the most productive mathematician of his era. He is considered to be one of the 'fathers' of analytic geometry, along with René Descartes. He is also considered, along with Blaise Pascal, to be one of the founders of probability theory.
Fermat's most important work was done in the development of modern number theory which was one of his favorite areas in Maths. He is best remembered for his number theory, in particular for "Fermat's Last Theorem". This theorem states that: x^n + y^n = z^n has no non-zero integer solutions for x, y and z when n is greater than 2. Andrew Wiles, a British-American research mathematician at Priceton University, finally proved Fermat's Last Therorem in 1994.

Fermat's house displays two permanent exhibitions "Fermat, enfant de la Lomagne" and "Voyage en Mathématique" which lets you discover the life and work of this Mathematical genius.
You can also make some manipulations and solve a few puzzles. In addition, you will see the "Szilassi Heptaedre" sculpture at the entrance of the house and a beautiful view of Beaumont on the rooftop of Fermat Tower.
Family, friends or groups can do the "theorem Chase" in the city (2€).
The role of Fermat-Science Association is to promote a Mathematical culture open to everyone.
It organises the "Fête à Fermat" every year.
It offers school groups different activities to discover the exhibition and the bastide.
It offers several workshops to approach a concrete notion of Mathematics, History and Science.
School groups can also have fun with some "treasure hunts".
